What kind of camera do I need to use MIOPS?

What kind of battery life should I expect?
The battery life of MIOPS depends on your usage, but in general the battery will last for about 4 days with continuous use. You can charge the battery from any USB power source. Don’t leave the battery drained for a long time, as this may shorten the battery life.
Do I need a smartphone to use MIOPS?
MIOPS can be used without a smartphone, but with the dedicated app it will offer many more features. In the standalone mode the following modes are available: Lightning, Sound, Laser, HDR, Time Lapse and DIY (External Sensor). The cable release modes and scenario modes are available with the app only. The scenario mode enables you to combine different sensors to create your own unique trigger scenario.
How can I trigger my flash with MIOPS?
MIOPS has a dedicated output for flashes, and we provide a standard sync cable to connect to your flash. If your flash has a sync port, you can connect MIOPS directly to this port. If your flash does not have a PC Sync port, then you can also use a hot shoe adapter.
What should my camera settings be for lightning mode?
First of all, the camera and lens must be set to manual focus. You can set the focus to infinity. An exposure value of a few seconds should be enough for night time lightning photography. You can set the aperture between f/4 and f/8. For day time lightning photography, you may choose a shorter exposure value. Please keep in mind that lightning stays visible for about half a second, so you can consider using an ND filter.
How can I use a wireless flash trigger with MIOPS?
MIOPS requires a cable connection to trigger the control unit of wireless flash triggers. The main control unit needs to have a trigger port to connect the MIOPS. You can mount the wireless flash trigger on the hot shoe of your camera. MIOPS does not need the hot shoe mount to work.
What kind of laser can I use with MIOPS?
The laser mode of MIOPS requires you to keep a laser beam to the device. This can be any kind of laser pointer or laser pen. If you have one laying around, you can use it. If you consider buying one, the color and power do not matter. You don’t need something very powerful. Take extra caution while working with lasers.
Is MIOPS waterproof?
MIOPS is not waterproof, so it is a good idea to cover it if it is raining. You can use transparent plastic to cover the unit. The reception of the light sensor and microphone may be reduced if covered.
What is the Bluetooth range of MIOPS?
MIOPS features a Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy chip. The range depends on many factors, but in general you can expect a range of 20 to 30 meters. You will have a better range outdoors.
Which iOS and Android versions are supported?
The MIOPS app is available both on Apple Store for iOS devices and on Google Play for Android devices. For iOS devices the firmware must be iOS 8.0 or later. The app is compatible with iPhones, iPads and iPod touch. For Android devices the firmware must be 4.3 or later.
How can I trigger two cameras at the same time?
MIOPS has one output for cameras and one output for the flash units. The camera output is 2.5mm, hence the camera connection cables have a 2.5mm jack. It is possible to connect a Y-adapter to multiple outputs, but it is not recommended as this can cause a short between two cameras. This kind of operation is not supported.
Can I place MIOPS far away from my camera?
You can use an extension cable for that purpose. The extension camera must have 2.5mm stereo male and female jacks. You need to put the extension cable between the MIOPS and your original camera connection cable. Extension cables up to several hundred feet should work without a problem.
